Physical Attributes – Tall, long, thick, athlete. Has some twitch and athletic ability, runs well, good feet in the pocket and shows he can get out of the pocket and make plays as well. He has a strong arm and can make all the throws. Listed as a Pro style QB but looks more athletic.
Position Specific Skills – Maalik has decent feet and set up, good bounce in the pocket and has a solid pocket presence. He shows mechanically that he pushes the ball at times and the release doesn’t look smooth, but he is still accurate with the ball. He can throw from different angles and keep that accuracy. He has a strong arm. Very impressed with the velocity he shows with. He looks like an instinctive football player that is programmed to make plays. Would like to see more runs to utilize his size and speed. In my opinion that would separate him from the, Pro Style, competition.
Overall – The last highlight that came out was in 2019 so there is limited film to fully evaluate Maalik. He is a big QB with a very strong arm. Not as refined with foot work and release but he is accurate in drop backs and sprinting out of the pocket and can make all the throws. He is a really good QB. Looks like a Dwayne Haskins type QB. I like him but want to see more with my own eyes.
